
Monroe County Firefighters Association, IncThe Monroe County Firefighter's Association, Inc., was formed in 1964 to further educate along the lines of firefighting and rescue work by gathering and dispensing information of value to organization members, to serve as a medium of exchange of ideas, and to suggest to promote legislation for the benefit of all departments. Facts about the Fire Association......... * The Association serves to represent all firefighters in Monroe County, their mutual aid counterparts in various surrounding jurisdictions and all individuals who assist these agencies. * The Association strives to have one large unit of well-trained members under the guidance of the Association, by the spirit of willingness and cooperation to create and share in a common cause for the benefit of all. * The Association is totally non-political. * The Association has members from every fire department in Monroe County. There are also members from Washtenaw County, Wayne County and Washington Township in Ohio. The members, and other departments, have a written mutual aid pact with Monroe County. This pact is utilized often. * A meeting is held monthly, except for August and December, with a different fire department hosting the meeting every month. * There are 25 fire department members, with 6 non-fire department members including the Monroe County Emergency Management Division, Monroe County Central Dispatch, Monroe County Sheriff Department, Michigan State Police, American Red Cross and Michigan Department of Natural Resources. * The 6 non-fire department members are non-dues paying, non-voting members. They keep the Association informed of important county and statewide matters. Also available through these members are various types of training such as severe weather spotting, accident training, wildfire training, etc. * At this time, the Association has raised enough money to build a permanent structure at the Monroe County Fair Grounds to provide shelter for the departments during the County Fair. This building is also used for fire prevention information, training information, etc. The building was constructed solely by volunteers during off-time from their regular employment.
